Focused on EPIC (Engineer Procure Integrate Construct) projects, SunGrid manages the complete lifecycle of Battery Energy Storage Systems. Having in-house engineering capabilities throughout North America allows SunGrid to execute projects ranging from 250kWh to 1GWh in size.

Role Summary

The US Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and take responsibility for overseeing US accounting operations including project accounting, monthly closing processes, AP/AR, and payroll. The US Controller will also be required to develop and maintain the system of internal accounting controls and financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis. The company is in the process of upgrading accounting systems and building out the accounting group, which makes it an exciting time to join the team!

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate monthly and annual financial statements, audit activities, and other information reports and requests; ensures accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Work closely with project managers to monitor and control financial performance of the company’s US project portfolio.
  • Provide consistent compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as Company policies and procedures.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Oversee, operate, and maintain the company’s financial accounting system
  • Maintains externals relationships with banks and auditors.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Project a positive presence in negotiations and presentations with financial institutions, lawyers, accountants, clients, and other business leaders
  • Provide project and executive management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Work with company’s tax accountants to ensure timely and accurate filing of returns and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations

Qualifications and Skills

  • Accredited four (4) year degree in Accounting
  • 7-10+ years of relevant project accounting experience; EPC industry and/or renewable energy experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project based / percentage of completion (POC) method of accounting
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Thorough understanding of accounting and regulatory standards (GAAP)
  • Experience with NetSuite and construction accounting software
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and deadlines
